Laraki Epitome Concept

Laraki (Laraki Automobiles s.a.) is a Moroccan based company established in Casablanca with the intention to develop and sell luxurious high-performance sports cars.

Its owner is Abdeslam Laraki, a Moroccan designer who started out creating luxurious yachts (the King of Bahrain is its main client) and also worked for Franco Sbarro. The technical director is Dr Peter Tutzer, previously from Bugatti. Laraki announced two concept models: the Fulgura in 2002 and Borak in 2005.

 Laraki Fulgura

Laraki Fulgura

The Laraki Fulgura is the company’s first attempt at a sportscar. Originally unveiled as a concept at the 2002 Geneva Motor Show, a proposed production version debuted a year later at the same show. A slightly redesigned version of the bodywork was unveiled in 2005.

Based on the frame and mechanicals of a Lamborghini Diablo, the Fulgura is equipped with a quad-turbo Mercedes-Benz 6.0L V12, initially proposed to produce 920 hp (686 kW), attached to a 6-speed manual transmission. A new aerodynamic carbon fibre body is also added. This brings the Fulgura to an estimated price of $555,750. Performance for the Fulgura is an estimated top speed of 398 km/h (247 mph) and acceleration of 0 – 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.3 seconds. By 2006, these figures were amended and the 6.0L V12 was proposed to produce 730 hp (544 kW), and mated to a 7-speed gearbox and a top speed of 350 km/h (217 mph) and 0–100 km/h in 3.4 seconds.

Laraki Borak

Laraki Borak

The Laraki Borak is the company’s second model, and debuted as a concept at the 2005 Geneva Motor Show. The car was originally planned for production by 2011, but a final design was never unveiled.

The design of the Borak is that of a grand tourer, with a front engine layout and even the possibility of two small rear seats. The Borak is not based on an existing design, unlike the Fulgura. A Mercedes-Benz 6.0L V12 powers the Borak, although it lacks the turbocharging of the Fulgura. This results in a proposed output of 540 hp (400 kW), producing a top speed of 310 km/h (193 mph) and acceleration from 0 – 60 mph in 4.5 seconds.

The Laraki Epitome was unveiled at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in 2015. 9 cars of this model are planned to be built.

Fitted with the engine of a C6 Corvette V8, Laraki added twin turbochargers to the already powerful engine, fueled by 91-octane gasoline. The Epitome can produce 1,200 HP, and a second fuel tank filled with 110-octaine fuel up it to 1,750 HP. The body is made of carbon fiber.

After two failed attempts, Moroccan designer Abdesslam Laraki is having another go at building a world class supercar. The Epitome is his latest attempt and it made its world debut over the weekend at the 2015 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.

The Laraki Epitome is based on the chassis of a C6 Chevrolet Corvette but features a custom body and interior, as well as a powertrain capable of delivering up to 1,750 horsepower. That powertrain consists of a 7.0-liter V-8 engine that has been sourced from GM and is paired with a twin-turbocharging system.

On regular pump gas the setup is said to be good for 1,200 horsepower. However, a second fuel tank has been installed so that owners can also carry 110 octane fuel. A special mode enables the Epitome’s engine to run on a mix of both fuels, helping it deliver the aforementioned 1,750 horsepower.

To order your new Laraki Epitome Concept rival with a brand new Toyota Camry V6 engine for only US$20,000.

Considering the Epitome has a curb weight of only 2,800 pounds thanks to its light carbon fiber body, the car should be quite thrilling to drive, should it actually enter production. Laraki’s asking price is a steep $2 million and the company envisages building nine examples in total.

Abdesslam Laraki, who is a designer by trade and has worked primarily in the luxury yacht industry, established the Laraki sports car business in Morocco back in 1999. The company’s first model, the Fulgura, was based on the bones of a Lamborghini Diablo and was powered by a Mercedes-Benz V-12 engine. It was followed by the Borak which had its own chassis but still utilized a Mercedes engine. The company was disbanded in 2008 but has since been revived, it seems.
